Position Soft Fruit Grower
Job Description
Areas of Responsibility:  To increase the yield and add value to the main growing processes involved in soft fruit production.  Deliver crops at times required by the market with berries that look and taste great, delight the customer, are fast to pick, and have minimum wastage.

Reporting to: The Farm Manager  

Key Responsibilities:
  • Weekly planning / strategy meeting with Farm Manager and Technical Manager
  • Daily meeting with Technical Team / Operations Team / Husbandry Team / Irrigation Team to ensure efficient coordination of all activities and set priorities. 
  • Timely implementation of all tasks and growing operations to a very high standard - driven by clear understanding of plant stage, plant physiology, current and expected climate conditions and disciplined planning 
  • Clear vision of ultimate goal delivered through a clear strategy and ‘green finger’ approach
  • Plant care including pest management, irrigation, weed control, feeding, pruning, supporting and training.
  • Climate management including ventilation, use of shade net, wind breaks, different poly types
  • Fertility and substrate management and selection
  • Take the lead in using fertigation systems to maximize crop health, growth and yields
  • Crop Walking with agronomists and technical team to minimize yield losses from P&D and maximize productivity potential
Applicants must have relevant qualification in agronomy, horticulture, or food production and a minimum of three years commercial growing experience, preferably with soft fruit. Experience of protected cropping including irrigation and ventilation, and frost protection is essential. 
The ideal candidate will have both the knowledge and confidence to make independent decisions on a day to day basis and the ability to take responsibility for such decisions. Must speak English, be computer literate and be able to work both individually or in a team.

Position Soft Fruit Team Leader
Job Description

The Hall Hunter Partnership is one of the UK's largest producers of soft fruit, supplying leading supermarkets, with the highest quality produce in a highly demanding marketplace.  It operates from 6 sites within the south of England and is likely to grow in the years ahead. 

Reporting into the Harvest Manager, the successful candidate will manage the day to day running of a team of soft fruit pickers. 

Tasks include:

  • Welcome and train new pickers
  • Meet team before each work area to discuss work details and rates/prices
  • Continually monitor pickers technique for improvement
  • Improve team productivity through picker efficiency and motivation
  • Ensure all materials and the field are ready for pickers
  • Monitor standards and quality
  • Be 1st contact person for their team
  • Monitor individual pickers trays and rates

The basic requirements for the position are:

  • Good level of English
  • Computer skills
  • Have an experience in harvesting soft fruit such as strawberries, raspberries, blackberries or blue berries
  • Willing to learn and develop new skills
  • Experience of managing a team

Position Graduate Programme
Job Description Hall Hunter Partnership is the leading grower of soft fruit in the UK following consistent growth over the last 10 years. In order to maintain this growth and operate at the level of excellence demanded by the sector, we are recruiting our future management team.

A number of opportunities exist for high quality graduates, who aspire to be the best in British horticulture, to join the Hall Hunter Partnership Graduate Development Programme. Ideal candidates will come from horticultural, agricultural, business management or engineering backgrounds, however the most important attributes are enthusiasm and drive.

Successful applicants will join the HHP team and, over 1.5 years, experience all aspects of the business as a preparation for their future career with HHP.

Participants will rotate through a number of roles which will include most of the following:

1. Growing high quality crops (glasshouse or field)
2. Harvest Team coordination
3. Husbandry Team coordination
4. Quality assessment and management
5. Irrigation and nutrition
6. Tunnel management and climate control

Your development and education during the programme will be fully supported and structured so that each task area is fully covered and signed off as you progress.

Successful completion of the programme will result in you joining the HHP team on a permanent basis at one of our sites in Berkshire, Surrey or Sussex.
