Crop rotation
Large strawberry plants from our nursery are planted in the ground in April. They will crop in July, and allowed to over-winter. The following year they crop early in May and are over-wintered again before they crop for the last time in June and then removed. The ground is then cropped with a break crop such as barley.
Autumn fruiting strawberries are normally only cropped for one year before removal but the same ground will be used for three years as above before barley is sown.
Raspberry canes are planted in April and cropped in August. They are retained in the ground for up to five years before the ground is returned to a break crop.
